Flourish Preschool Music Academy
Peanut butter and jelly, socks and shoes, bats and balls, hide and seek, music and children — are all elements of childhood. Children are naturally interested in music, art and imaginary play, and these are naturally good for children. Why are the arts so attractive to children, and why are the arts so well suited to children?
Children naturally respond to multi-sensory learning opportunities, such as music, drama and visual arts. Each of the five senses activates specific neurons in the brain. For young children, multi-sensory activities provide more learning opportunities than single-sensory activities because more of the brain becomes involved in the lesson.
For example in a music class, children experience multi-sensory learning when they listen to and imitate animal sounds vocally or with an instrument, see the animals in the story, and then move around like them.
Art activities can bring in the sense of smell and taste through edible art works, such as creating rainbows out of colored cereal or even using edible finger paints for the youngest learners.
Dramatic play teaches self regulation, encourages language development, teaches conflict resolution, relieves emotional tension and can be very empowering. Leaning experiences that integrate several senses simultaneously are responsible for lasting impressions and greater retention.
Story Book Theatre
The Music Box School of Music offers Flourish Preschool Music Academy for children 3 - 5 years. We offer a curriculum of immersive arts education that supports early childhood development and school-readiness while nurturing the whole child. Children play, sing and bond while developing self-confidence, social skills and creative thinking. The program combines music, art, movement and dramatic play.
Our arts-based, play-to-learn approach reflects the latest research in child development and emergent (child-led) curriculum practices. Classroom activities provide sensory and tactile experiences, afford opportunity for self-discovery and self-expression, and encourage collaboration and social connection.
